Lord Jagannath, whose name means Lord of the World, is a form of Vishnu worshipped primarily in the coastal city of Puri, Odisha. According to ancient texts, the deity was manifested by the divine trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva to protect the earth from a looming calamity. The iconic wooden idols of Jagannath, his sister Subhadra, and brother Balabhadra emerged from a miraculous event in which a king named Indradyumna received a divine vision of the three figures. Temple Architecture and Iconography

The Jagannath Temple, known as the Shree Jagannath Mandir, stands on the eastern seaboard of India and is a masterpiece of Kalinga architecture. The journey from the main sanctuary to the Gundicha Temple, spanning roughly three kilometers, symbolizes the deity’s temporary return to his ancestral home and offers a rare glimpse of the divine to all social strata.
