According to Hindu mythology, Sati, the daughter of Daksha, was married to Lord Shiva against her father’s wishes. When Daksha organized a grand yajna, he intentionally excluded Lord Shiva from the guest list. Sati, feeling humiliated and hurt, jumped into the yajna fire, immolating herself. Lord Shiva, grief-stricken and enraged, carried Sati’s body on his shoulders and began the tandava, the dance of destruction. The other gods, fearing the destruction of the universe, sent Lord Vishnu to stop Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu used his sudarshan chakra to dismember Sati’s body, and the various parts fell at different locations on the earth, creating the 51 Shakti Peethas.
