Introduction to Jwala Ji Shakti Peetha
Jwala Ji Shakti Peetha, situated in the picturesque Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, is one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas in India. This revered site is believed to be the place where Sati’s tongue fell, according to Hindu mythology. The Goddess worshipped here is known as Siddhida, and the Bhairava is revered as Unmatta Bhairav.
Mythological Significance
The mythological significance of Jwala Ji Shakti Peetha is deeply rooted in the story of Sati, the wife of Lord Shiva. When Sati’s father, Daksha, organized a grand yajna, he intentionally did not invite Lord Shiva. Sati, feeling disrespected, attended the yajna and ultimately sacrificed herself in the fire. Lord Shiva, filled with grief and anger, carried Sati’s body on his shoulders and started the Tandava, the dance of destruction. To stop this destruction, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshana Chakra to cut Sati’s body into 51 pieces, which fell at different locations on the Earth. These locations are now known as Shakti Peethas, and Jwala Ji is one of them.
